This "do it yourself" tutorial is an improvement of an old post I made last year. A unique way to decorate your walls and reuse materials is to create shapes using bottle cap lids. You will need bottle caps, paint, and sticky tack! You can do simple, flowing shapes to unify shapes and colours within your room: Or you can create pixel-based shapes and images like this one: To create a pixel based image, choose an image based on the amount of pixels in it. Here is an image I found of Ash Ketchum from the old gameboy colour Pokemon game series which I used to play: You can open up the image in a program such as Photoshop, zoom in and see a pixel grid. This way you'll be able to see just how many pixels are in the image, and how many bottle caps you'll need to create it. Here is a close-up: My family buys cases of bottled water (which I think is a waste of money) so all these bottle caps added up really fast. I hope you enjoyed this little art project. Ugh, you're unfairly talented/creative. I want your mind.
That's cool. How are you attaching them to the wall? Can they be removed without harming the paint?
Oh what a great idea. I am all for "Eco Friendly" decorating! It turned out so cute. Thanks for the idea!! I am new to your blog. Glad I found it!
Thank you!!
I just used sticky tack to stick them to the wall. It all depends on the brand you buy because they are made differently!
I suggest trying it out on your wall beforehand. :)
Thanks - I want to try the mona lisa - that would be cool.
I had better start collecting a ton of bottlecaps.
haha this is cute!

Hi! In the spirit of your original post, "Bottle Cap Planets", why not try painting the bottle caps with glow-in-the-dark paint? Then you'd really have some fine little planets for your walls!
Hey!
That's a really good suggestion! Thanks.
Maybe I'll think of something new to do with that paint also!
Hey,
Our school environmental club wants to do this and our concern is about how to mount it to the wall. Is the sticky tack permanent or is it easily removed? (ie: if random students wanted to remove the bottle caps, can they do that easily?)
Hey Natasha!
I used a room in my wall for this, and the sticky tack doesn't work too well sometimes. It also depends on the sticky tack.
If you're going to do it in a public place, I'd recommend a different solution. Maybe using nails, and hot-gluing the tops to the bottle caps, although I think hot glue may not stick to well to plastic (I would test it out). But I would definitely recommend the nails, with a big flat tip, as a base...
If I think of any other ideas, I'll let you know!
Hello Dori, which university did you travel? What their expirations for your creations? Very beautiful creations all! I'm from Brazil, with a passion for photographs. Could you give me some advice? If you can add on facebook or email or skype or whatsapp. Thank you :)
Hey SC AF,
Thanks for the compliment. :) I went to Humber College for photography, although I'm currently not pursuing a photography career. I'm not very good at photography, but I really love composition, colour, and creativity. I could always give advice on those things. :)
